Horizontal exploratory trip led by Miki Manning

Horizontal beginner trip to a pretty cave just outside of Scottsboro, AL.  (The exact meeting address will be shared via email after you register).  

This will be an exploratory trip - enter the cave, explore around, leave the cave.  No promises of how far we'll get or what we'll see.  That's part of the fun!

While beginners and new members are welcome on this trip, this trip is not suitable for first-timers who have never been in a cave or who have extremely limited caving experience.  Ask the trip leader, Miki Manning, if you have any questions or concerns. 

After we leave the gas station, the road requires a 4WD vehicle with good ground clearance, so have one yourself or ask to ride with someone else.  You can drop your car off before the road gets too bad to ride with others.

DCG ALWAYS uses Eastern Timezone, even if the event is in a different timezone. Cell phones will jump to the Central Timezone while you are still in the Eastern Timezone when they get close to the tower, so be aware of this so you don't show up an hour late wondering where everyone is. They are probably already caving!

To join, you will need to bring:

• A helmet with mounted light and new/fresh batteries (highly recommend backup headlamps)
• Spare batteries for your light
• Gloves
• Kneepads
• Sturdy boots/shoes
• Lunch/snacks for eating in the cave
• Water(suggest around a liter/person)
• Extra layer (suggest a light jacket/sweatshirt)
• Backpack to carry your gear so your hands will be free to move in the cave
• Any medicine you need (please let us know of ANY conditions you have!)

We highly suggest bringing a change of clothes/shoes for when you exit the cave (to keep your car clean) and a bag to put your dirty clothes in after you change. A towel helps, too.
