Last Day to register to purchase a book will be
Thursday, April 22nd!
Exciting announcement: Our special speaker for May's Campout at Cavers Paradise in Sewanee, TN will be Michael Ray Taylor author of several caving books including his newest HIDDEN NATURE: Wild Southern Caves.
As Larry Matthews wrote in his review of Hidden Nature for the NSS News, "This book is a love story: Mike’s love of TAG caves and TAG cavers." At the May 15 DCG meeting, Michael Ray Taylor will talk about and read from his book, HIDDEN NATURE: Wild Southern Caves, sharing stories of favorite pits and legendary TAG cavers, as well as new, unpublished information about scientific discoveries at a cave in Cannon County that he calls "a hidden Lechuguilla, east of the Mississippi." Signed copies of the book will be available for purchase. As Larry wrote in his review, "Once you start reading this book, you will have a hard time putting it down."
As a journalist, Michael has written about science and exploration for The New York Times, Sports Illustrated, Houston Chronicle, Wired, Outside, Reader’s Digest, Audubon, and many other print and digital publications. By day he is a journalism professor who chairs the communication and theatre arts department at Henderson State University in Arkansas, but his personal enthusiasm for underground life has led him to collaborate with scientists from NASA and other research centers in various scientific studies. He is a fellow of both the National Speleological Society and The Explorers Club and has received the NSS Spelean Arts and Letters Award.
He will be selling and autographing copies of his most recent book Hidden Nature: Wild Southern Caves which can be purchased for $20/book after his presentation. Please sign up for the number of books that you will purchase so he can get an idea of how many to bring to the campout.
