DOGWOOD CITY GROTTO
Meet location: Stevenson Train Depot in Stevenson, AL - 34.86768, -85.84038
Time: 10 AM Eastern
What to Expect: We will meet at the train depot and carpool from there as parking is limited at the cave. This will be an exploratory horizontal trip and a new cave for me so unless you’ve been before, we will be finding the way together. There is a stream flowing through the cave although I’m unsure of how wet it may be at this dry time of year. To be adequately prepared, I recommend wearing or bringing along warm layers and/or neoprene, especially for those who get cold easily. Please come with a helmet, three sources of light including one attached to the helmet, back up batteries, water, snacks if you want them, a bag, gloves, knee pads, study boots, and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Make sure to also bring clothes to change into afterwards and somewhere to store your dirty clothes and gear (trash bag, gear box, etc.).
Description of the Cave: Talley Ditch is basically a horizontal cave with five known entrances, the main entrance being about 20' x 30'. The owner says that Gin Cave connects also. A stream flows right inside the entrance so you can expect some wading.
